      The Down Low

Phee appears to be good at everything. It’s probably irritating for other players. She’s a consistent rebounder, scorer, passer, and defender. Almost immediately upon joining the league, she established herself as a star player. She was often asked to guard the best player on the opposing team as a rookie, even if they weren’t her position. When she won Rookie of the Year, it was after a long debate about steadiness vs. a flash, as the other leading candidate was Arike Ogunbowale, who put up huge scoring numbers as a rookie. (If I had a vote.)

Apparently, coach Cheryl Reeve has encouraged Collier to show off a little bit more, leading to the shimmy heard round the world:

It was rare showing of bravado from Phee who was raised to value humility. Napheesa later discussed the proper execution of the shimmy with fellow basketball star Stephen Curry on her podcast Tea with A & Phee, which she hosts with A’ja Wilson.

Napheesa is sitting out at least most of the 2022 season due to pregnancy. She is expecting her first child in May.

      Notable Quotables

I’m not really a vocal person. Even my game isn’t super flashy. But I get stuff done.
